Lochwinnoch Community Council was first formed in 1979 under the terms of the Local Government (Scotland) Act 1973, and consists of elected members together with various ex-officio members, including the local councillor. There are also co-opted members.

The Community Councillors are residents of the area who act on behalf of local people to try and preserve those aspects of Lochwinnoch which they believe are worth retaining, while also encouraging developments which will benefit the community. All planning applications are monitored and where appropriate amendments are suggested or written objections are submitted. The theme over the years has been to ensure that the Green Belt is preserved and that development is consistent with the Local Development Plan.If you have something that you would like to bring to the community council's attention then contact a member of the community council (see members below) or come along before the meeting to talk to people.

One of the responsibilities of Community Councils is to seek and take note of the views of residents. The Lochwinnoch Community Council meets at the Parish Church on the first Tuesday of each month at 7.30 pm. These meetings are open to all local residents. Members of the public may (with the consent of the Chairperson) raise matters of concern and question the Council on any relevant topic. This is one of the ways you can "have your say" on any decision or question which affects the public life of the area.
