The older children have also been putting together information to produce a School Centenary Handbook, which will be available for purchase by visitors at the Open Days.
Information Gathering
We have so far received 175 replies from former pupils with information and memories about their time at the school. If there is anyone else who would like to contribute information please ring the school for a questionnaire on 01505 842583. On the subject of information gathering please see the following article which appeared in the Gazette:
Our local Primary School will be celebrating it’s centenary in February 2005. One of the projects for this prestigious event is the compilation of a Dux Board. Unfortunately, they have been unable to obtain all the information needed to complete this list, because they do not know who the medallists were in 1928, 1932 and 1969. If you can help us to fill in those spaces, please phone Betty McAllister on 01505 842684.
Anyone reading this article here could also e-mail the information to the contact e-mail address at this site.
Interviews
Former pupils in their 20’s, 30’s, 40’s, 50’s, 60’s, 70’s, 80’s and 90’s have been interviewed by Primary 7 pupils and staff members. They were asked questions about their time at the school and their memories were recorded so that some of them can be included in the Centenary Handbook. These visits were much enjoyed by the staff and pupils who took part.
School Photograph
A photograph of the whole school was taken on September 1st for parents to purchase.
Choir
A choir has been formed in school and the children are practicing various songs for the centenary service on February 4 th 2005, including a song written specially for the school and adapted to fit a well know tune.
Art Project
Miss Emma Duncan, from the village, who is a graduate of the Glasgow School of Art and former pupil, is visiting the school to work with the pupils. They will create banners in different mediums depicting various different aspects of life and industry in the community over the past 100 year.
Cairn
Mr Michael Gilmour has, very kindly, built a cairn on the grass at the front of the school. It was built during the summer holidays and will shortly have a plaque on commemorating the school centenary.
